A paper industry drum has a flexible cylindrical mantle (1) clamped to circular end plates(5). The ring clamp projects radially no more than 15 mm beyond the drum maximum outer diameter. That part projecting beyond the mantle is made of high-tensile steel with a yield point between 500 and 1500 N/mm2, and/or a fibre-strengthened plastic. In the clamping zone the drum outer margin (R) is of smaller diameter than the mantle (1) central pressing zone (P). The mantle outer margins converge towards the circular end-plate (5).
