The vehicle roof (1) has a reinforced frame (9), which encloses the roof opening (3). The roof opening can be closed by a roof plate (2) with a groove (6) that is upwardly open. When the roof plate is mounted from underneath, a nose-piece (8) of the vehicle roof engages into the upward groove. The roof plate comprises a glass pane (5) and is preferably provided with solar cells.
