A method for monitored cooperation between a robot unit and a human operative for carrying out of, according to a specifiable program sequence of handling steps to be undertaken within a common working space, accessible by the robot and by the human operative, where the robot unit is controlled by a program sequence control, defining the handling steps. A movement pattern is impressed on the robot during its relative approach to the human operative and is characterized by the direction of movement, the speed of movement as well as the spacing of the robot unit relative to the human operative. The movement pattern is selected depending on the human operative, so that a feeling of work safety and control of the robot unit is communicated to the human operative.
