The material passes through a track section with a first feeding press point and a further section with a second removal press point. One press point has an electrically regulated drive. The traveling speed at the first press point is measured, and the traveling speed at the second press point is calculated taking into consideration the tension in the material length, the elasticity module, and/or material stretch and elasticity module. A machine is provided to carry out the following steps. Material tension and speed are measured at the first press point, the tension between the two press points is given as a set value, the elasticity module is measured on the traveling material, as auxiliary regulation value. All values are processed in a set value regeneration stage, and the drive at the removal press point is regulated accordingly.
