First (1) and second (2) solid body laser substances (SBLS) are optically pumped, cooled via a jacket surface and operated symmetrically in reference to their polarization-changing properties. A polarization rotator (6) fits between the SBLS along with first (3) and second (4) optical devices for forming a beam by adapting a beam diameter and a divergence angle. An independent claim is also included for a structure for compensating for strain double refraction by taking into account thermally induced lens action in laser media.
