The device (1) has a power source (3) that generates a d.c. output signal, an arrangement (4) for reducing the d.c. output voltage (U) of the supply device in defined limiting time intervals by a defined limiting voltage amplitude. The arrangement is driven periodically so that in the event of an opening spark the build-up of a rising spark voltage is inhibited by the periodic voltage reduction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an energy supply system with an inventive device (b) and a method of d.c. electrical supply of loads with an inventive device.
