The assembly (10) to separate a paper or cardboard web (12) from a porous and continuous fourdrinier (14), for transfer to another continuous and porous blanket (16) in a papermaking machine, has a suction unit (18) within the loop of the delivery fourdrinier to subject it to a vacuum at the separation and transfer zone (20). The vacuum strength is at least at the level where the water contained in and/or on the fourdrinier is retained. A similar suction unit (26) is within the loop of the continuous porous take-up blanket, with a vacuum strength at least within the separation/transfer zone which stronger than the vacuum applied to the fourdrinier.
