The anti-spray or anti-spatter lid is for a cooking utensil such as a frying pan or a saucepan. It consists of a thin circular plate (6) with an array of holes (8). The holes may be formed by punching to form downwardly-extending tubular portions (12). The top surface (16) of the plate presents a dimpled appearance with small holes at the bottom of the dimples (20). The lid has a downwardly turned flange (26) at the edge (28) to fit on top of the pan.
