The generator has a gradient coil formed by two substantially hollow-cylindrical halves (21, 22) that are axially separated from each other. The halves contain conductors for the coil, where each unit has an axial free space to receive a shim device. A radio frequency antenna has a hollow conductor disposed between the halves, such that a hollow interior axially communicates with and continues one of the axial free spaces. An independent claim is also included for a magnetic resonance apparatus with a generator.
