The method involves temporarily storing fuel vapor in the fuel tank (40), preferably in an active carbon filter (50) absorption tank, initiating a filter flushing process in selected engine (10) operating regions in the context of a regeneration phase and feeding a flushing flow into the engine induction tract and hence to the combustion via a tank venting valve (70). A mass flow from a characteristic is compared with and corrected using a value derived from pressure sensor (100) measurement data.
