The engine compartment of an automobile (1) is fitted with sensors (3) such as infra red, smoke particles, gas and acoustic sound detectors. Sensor groups (4) are located at different points to localize the detection of fire. The acoustic sensors respond to leaking fuel. All sensors are connected to an alarm control system (6).
