Method for manipulating real or virtual objects (110') using a manually operated 2D input unit (101) and a manually operated 3D input unit (102) has the following steps: generation of 2D control signals using the 2D input unit; evaluation of the 2D control signals and corresponding manipulation of the objects; generation of 3D control signals by manual movement of operating parts (104) of the 3D input unit and; evaluation of the 3D control signals to cause speed-controlled manipulation of the objects. An independent claim is made for a method for navigation of a position marker in a CAD application. The invention also relates to a 3D input unit, computer software product and computer system.
