Window for an ultra-high vacuum chamber has a rigid support frame with mounting holes outside the window area. The support frame (1) has a number of small holes (3) central to the window area (2). A thin glass plate (4), which has low-loss and low-dispersion characteristics for the optical spectrum to be measured, is connected to the support frame. - The support frame is made from standard UHV glass. The holes have a diameter of some 2.5 mm and a separation of some 2 mm. Th glass plate is approximately 0.5 mm thick.
