Smart card connector (10) has a housing (11) that is fixed in equipment requiring a card-reader function. The connector has a drawer (12) that slides in and out of the housing between open and closed states. In the closed state a smart card cannot be removed from the drawer, while the drawer is sealed using a seal against stationary components. The card is spring loaded when the drawer is open so that it can be easily removed. Optimally drawer outward movement is limited using a buffer that is fabricated in conjunction with the drawer front screen seal.
