The method for the increasing of the turbulence of a charge volume fed to a combustion chamber (6) in an internal combustion engine (1) through at least on inlet port (9) creating a charge movement entails controlling the feed of the charge to the combustion chamber by means of at least one inlet valve (8) opening and closing the inlet port. During the space of time in which the inlet valve opens the inlet port an additional control element (10) installed in the inlet port closes the latter and opens it before the closing of the inlet port by the inlet valve.
