The twisting disk (7) with yarn eyelets (8) can rotate freely in peripheral bearings (6) and has embedded arc-shaped (4a) or segmental (4b) permanent magnets. It is coupled to a drive from a reversing electric motor (1) through a drive disk (3) with corresponding magnets (4). A sensor (10) detects the angle of rotation and indicates any slip between the drive disk (3) and twisting disk (7). The drive from the motor (1) can be taken through a flexible shaft and can include an auxiliary drive pinion (9) for a detwisting device. Two or more twisting disks can be cascaded through a magnetic coupling. The disks themselves are of non-magnetic material and the magnets are embedded in them, e.g. by injection molding in plastic.
