A method (M1) for the stereo- and regio-selective polymerisation of racemic alkoxides in presence of a polyol activated with a bimetallic mu - oxoalkoxide to give polyether-polyols with an isotactic triad content of more than 25% and a regio-irregularity of less than 50%, involves carrying out the polymerisation in presence of a tert. amine. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method (M2) for the production of polyols activated with mu -oxo-alkoxides by reacting a trialkoxyaluminum compound and a magnesium salt with the polyol in a one-pot reaction without isolating the intermediate mu -oxoalkoxide (2) a method (M3) for the production of such activated polyols by reacting a trialkylaluminum compound with a Mg salt and then reacting the product with the polyol.
