Security element (10) for a banknote passport or similar comprises an electronic circuit (11) formed from flexible electronic components. The electronic circuit and components are made from conducting organic polymer compounds, organic semiconductors and or metallic conductors. The invention also relates to a corresponding data carrier with an inventive security element, a method for manufacturing such a security element, a method for manufacturing such a data carrier and use of inventive security elements and data carriers.
