Solar-heated industrial furnace comprises a reaction chamber (13) provided with a window (14) as an inlet for focussed solar radiation (23) that is guided by a radiation concentrator (20) through the window into the reaction chamber. A non-solar heat source (25) takes over the energy input when no or insufficient solar radiation is available. An independent claim is also included for a process for operating an industrial furnace.
