The method involves applying an electromagnetic wave, such as microwave, treatment to the optical storage media. The characteristics of the electromagnetic waves are used to focus a large quantity of energy onto the thin film layer of the storage media. The adhesion between the carrier layer and the thin film layer is removed, so that the thin film layer can detach from the carrier layer and a semi-finished product can be obtained. Scraping or ultrasound may be used to completely remove the carrier layer.
