Injection molding tool for plastics has hot runner channel insulated from adjacent tool plates by metal insulator in which material with lower thermal conductivity is embedded
Tool construction includes a tool clamping plate (2), tool plate (3) and a hot runner channel (4). Metal insulators (12) are located between the hot runner channel and the two surrounding plates. A material embedded in each insulator has a lower thermal conductivity than the metal of the insulator itself. Tool construction includes a tool clamping plate (2), tool plate (3) and a hot runner channel (4). Metal insulators (12) are located between the hot runner channel and the two surrounding plates. A material embedded in each insulator has a lower thermal conductivity than the metal of the insulator itself. Each heat insulator comprises a disc with one or more cut-outs for holding the material. The cut-out can be a circumferential channel in an end face of the disc and/or a bore extending through the disc from one face to the other. The material fills each cut-out and lies flush with the end face. The material is in the form of prefabricated inserts bonded with heat resistant adhesive to the insulator. A bore passes through the insulator to allow a screw to pass through for connection to the tool plates. An independent claim is included for a metal heat insulator (12) used between a hot runner channel (4) and adjacent tool clamping (2) and tool (3) plates. The insulator holds a material with lower heat conductivity than the metal of the insulator.
