A method for the purification of crude bis-phenol or a bisphenol-containing product mixture involves treatment with an anion exchange resin (I) made by the phthalimide process. Independent claims are also included for (1) polycarbonates or plastics based on bis-phenols, especially Bisphenol A, in which (I) is used in the production process (2) a method for the production of bis-phenols in which at least part of the bisphenol-containing product stream is brought into contact with (I).
