The method involves starting a timer upon detecting the injection of fuel, and increasing the quantity of fuel injection. The fuel injection is stopped when the injection amount reaches a threshold value, and a minimum injection amount is determined. The total fuel quantity is varied to detect upward gradient of the fuel injection characteristics and the integral of the fuel flow for correcting the injection characteristics. An independent claim is also included for a device for execution of a method for regulating a fuel injection amount for igniting an internal-combustion engine.
