Oxidation-resistant composite material used in the production of molded bodies e.g. in machine and engine construction comprises a carbon composite material with layers containing mullite and aluminum oxide
Oxidation-resistant composite material comprises a carbon composite material with layers containing mullite and aluminum oxide. The thickness of a single layer is 1-15 mu m and the thickness of all the layers combined is 2-200 mu m. Mullite has a composition of Al2[Al2+2xSi2- 2x]O10-x (where x = 0.25) corresponding to 3 Al2O3 x 2SiO2 with 60 mol.% Al2O3 and up to x = 0.4 corresponding to 2Al2O3 x SiO2 with 66 mol.% Al2O3. The amount of mullite is present in an amount of 60-100 mol.% and the amount of aluminum oxide present is 0-40 mol.%. An independent claim is also included for a process for the production of an oxidation-resistant composite material.
