Method for laser beam welding of at least two workpieces in which the critical energy application amount per surface and time units is determined above which weld undercut on the side of the weld away from the laser beam occurs. During welding the laser beam is then controlled so that this critical value is not exceeded. An independent claim is made for a laser beam welding device that has an arrangement for regulating the laser beam energy.
