The method involves storing a defined application force as a defined displacement of an electric motor drive in a non-volatile memory, adding the displacement due to the inertia of the drive and storing the result and moving the brake in the opposite direction by the total distance when releasing the brake. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for applying and releasing a parking brake system for a vehicle.
