The palleting device has a reception station and a robot for handling the received cardboard sheet stacks (4), the reception station having a reception surface (42) and a number of support pins (34) projecting through respective holes in the reception surface, which are displaced vertically to allow the grippers of the handling robot to be fitted below the cardboard sheet stacks on the reception surface. The support pins are arranged in a grid pattern allowing the grippers to be inserted below the cardboard sheet stacks in at least 2 side directions.
