The system has a phase plate (PP) placed in an image beam path such that a wave front of zero order diffraction is not distorted. The plate at its center has a spherical phase disk whose geometrical center lies in rotational axis of the plate. A spherical portion of the disk allows matching of the wave fronts of a phase object and the zero order diffraction. The plate is shifted to introduce a phase shift between the wave fronts. An independent claim is also included for a method for manipulation of wave field in an image plane.
