The apparatus comprises a guide for moving a movable plate (14) with respect to a base plate (12). The joining elements (36,37) of a testpiece (35), are attached to the base plate and the movable plate, using fitting pins (33) and damping screws (34), respectively. A displacement sensor (60) is arranged so as to detect the relative movement of the joining elements. An independent claim is also included for method for determining thickness of liquid adhesive layer.
