Abutment (A) for a dental implant has a root segment or shaft (2) that can be anchored in the jawbone, preferably by screwing, and the abutment can be fixed, e.g. by an adhesive bond, to the coronal region. The new feature is that (A) is part of at least one set of preformed abutments that differ in size, each matching the size of a natural tooth. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) dental implants that comprise shaft (2) with (A) fixed to it; and (2) method for preparing a tooth replacement using an (A), by selection from the set, of an abutment of the proper shape for the tooth being reconstituted, then preparing it and fitting it with an additional component.
