New multicomponent systems (I) contain: (a) a first aqueous liquid containing at least one hydrophobic modified polymer (HMP); and (b) a second aqueous liquid containing at least one HMP and at least one surfactant. An independent claim is included for the preparation of a high viscosity liquid by mixing at least two liquids, one of which contains at least one HMP and another of which contains at least one HMP and at least one surfactant.
