The functional belt containing fibers for use in a machine producing a fiber web, e.g. a papermaking machine, has a surface in contact with the web with a higher pliability than the contact surface of the web. The belt has fibers (1) and especially felt fibers as hollow fibers (2), with an elasticity module E =200 N/mm2 and preferably =50 N/mm2. The hollow fibers have a shell (3) around a hollow interior (4), which allows distortion under pressure.
