A process for the production of polyurethane prepolymers (I) with isocyanate end groups by reaction of a polyisocyanate with polyols comprises mixing at least one unsymmetrical diisocyanate and at least one polyol having an average mol. wt. (Mn) of 60-3000 (200-1200) g/mol in a ratio of isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups of 1.1:1-4:1 (1.45:1-1.75:1) in the presence of at least one carboxylic acid amide.
