An improved air curtain system for open doorways has an overhead grid (21) with parallel inner walls to produce a laminar flow curtain with a reduced volume flow at air speeds up to 30 metres per second. The grid has a pattern of thin parallel plates (32) secured on spacers. The grid extends over the full width of the doorway and the grid plates can be replaced by a honeycomb structure formed by hexagonal ducts or by an expanded mesh structure.
