Ultrasonic device for detection of an embolus comprises an ultrasound transceiver (1), an ultrasound probe that is connected to the transceiver, an arrangement for guiding the ultrasound probe into a section of a patient artery and an evaluation arrangement with which the frequencies of transmitted and received ultrasound waves are compared. From changes in the frequency, conclusions are made about the presence, number and movement speed of the emboli and are presented as the result of the examination. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for use with the inventive device.
