An improved design of cylinder block for an IC engine has the top outer end walls with a reduced wall thickness via an outer concave profile. The profile has a constant radius similar to the inner radius of the cylinders This ensures that the outer wall has a similar thickness and shape as the walls separating the cylinders and thereby ensuring an improved leak tight fit for the ends of the cylinder block. The concave profile extends at least over the stroke of the piston rings.
