Pure vitamin B6 production by fermentation, for use in food or feed additives or supplements, including purification of product by ion exchange chromatography or aqueous-aqueous two-phase extraction
Production of vitamin B6 (I) involves: (a) preparing a fermentation broth containing (I) by culturing a suitable microorganism in a nutrient medium; (b) removing the cells to give a solution containing (I); (c) purifying (I) in the solution by (i) ion exchange chromatography (optionally at elevated temperature) or (ii) aqueous-aqueous two-phase extraction; or (d) optionally purifying the obtained (I)-containing fractions by crystallization. An independent claim is included for the isolation of (I) from an aqueous medium, by stages (c) and (d) as above.
