The device has a first component (1) with a longitudinal axis, a second component (3) rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the first component and that interacts with the first component, whereby either the first or second component can be connected to rotate with the rotary body and the interaction between the first and second components is constant when they are rotating relative to each other and is variable by moving them axially relative to each other. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a print roller with a position sensor (B) and a method of detecting the position of a rotary body.
