Method for taking a sample from a metallic tooth reconstruction or filling in which a grinding stone is turned extremely slowly over the metal filling so that no splinters are generated that could fly out into the mouth. The ground metal remains as flakes on the surface of the grinding stone. The whole grinding stone with its metal deposit is subjected to energy dispersive X-ray point analysis in the sample chamber of a scanning tunnel electron microscope. An independent claim is made for a device for taking a sample of a metallic dental filling for analysis purposes.
