The envelope rotating station (1) for mail processing systems has an envelope rotating cylinder (6) and a mail onward feed device (11) or additional mail onward feed device located with regard to the rotating cylinder and controllable in such a way, and/or the jaws (10) of the rotating cylinder are constructed in such a way that the mail items (2) fed between the open jaw sections (10a,10b), after the closing of the jaws and rotation of the cylinder by 90 degrees and/or 270 degrees, are transported away standing on one longitudinal edge.
