Microcollector for analysis samples comprises a cover layer (4) of a first absorbent/ adsorbent material enclosing a packing (3) of a second, differently selectively absorbent/ adsorbent, material which is at least partially outwardly exposed. The cover may comprise a tube with the ends closed by plugs (5). Preferably the collected species are thermally desorbed and analysed by chromatography.
