A linear drive, e.g. a rack and pinion drive, has a split drive from a single motor (1) with the two sub drives (3.1, 3.2) linked by a connecting gear (10) fitted with a correction control (12) which even out the torque to the two pinions (5.1, 5.2) which drive the single rack (6). A monitoring system computes correction signals for the connecting gear mounting to ensure a play free accurate drive, e.g. for position control systems.
