The lifting gear, especially a chain hoist (1) or cable hoist, has a lifting mechanism with an electric motor (4), a control unit (2) and a device for the monitoring of the lifting mechanism. The device for the monitoring of the lifting mechanism has a unit (18) for the wire-less transmission of data, especially operating hours and load frequency distribution of the lifting gear. The latter device is a transmitter which has an IR-emitting diode.
