Method for determining the filling level of a closable hollow space (1), which can be filled or emptied using a medium. A valve (2) is provided that is mounted in a conduit connecting the space with an expansion chamber (3). When the valve is opened, the flowing rate through the conduit is measured. Calibration of the measurement system and consideration of an additional variable that influences the flow speed in the valve permits continuous determination of the filling level.
