Method for reducing noise and dust caused by the mowing and collecting mechanisms of a tractor-type lawn mower. According to the method cut grass is transported from the intermediate mower mechanism directly to a rear or upper collection container using a horizontally or vertically aligned transport arrangement. With front mower mechanisms the cut grass is always transported over a receiving and compressing arrangement. The receiving and pressing elements are maintained outside the working area of the mower.
