In a process to grind a crankshaft to its final dimensions, the grinding assembly has a sensor (13) in touch with the crankshaft and a data processing unit holding a record of the target dimensions. The data processing unit is coupled to and regulates operation of the grinding tool. Also claimed is a commensurate grinding tool.
