The device includes a measuring chamber (1) with an inlet pipe (2) connected to a milk pipe, and an outlet pipe (3). A pressure sensor (4) is arranged in the direction of the axis of the inlet pipe, at a spacing from its opening that corresponds to 0.3 to 5 times the diameter of the inlet pipe. The surface of the pressure sensor (4) is aligned so that its direction of maximum sensitivity corresponds to the axis of the inlet pipe. Measuring devices are arranged in or on the measuring chamber for outputting a signal in the presence of milk. An independent claim is included for a method of determining the quantity of liquid component of a liquid-gas mixture in a milk pipe.
