Device for measuring the depth of a recess within a surface has a gauge pin (8) that is inserted into the recess and a dial (6) for indicating the displacement of the bolt relative to a measurement support bridge (10) that is supported on the surface during a measurement on a support surface (10c). The measurement surface of the measurement bridge is convex with the curvature of its surface being greater than that of a surface in which the recess is formed. The invention also relates to use of the inventive device for measuring the depth of a hole in a concave surface and a measurement bridge for measuring the depth of a hole in a concave surface.
