The device has an impact surface and an airbag with at least one first and one second chamber, whereby first and second regions (12A,12B) of the impact surface are associated with the first (14) and second chambers respectively, at least one gas generator unit for filling the airbag. The first chamber is subjected to a lower pressure than the second when the gas generator unit is activated. The airbag is asymmetrical and the second region of the impact surface protrudes at least partly from the first region when the airbag is full.
