The rotary field drive is based on a direct rectifier with innovative topology with m input phases. Each input phase (E) can be connected with each output phase by a switch (S) which is unidirectionally conductive of current and which is capable of stopping and blocking voltage bi-directionally. The low number of valves which can be disconnected, the lack of an intermediary circuit accumulator, together with the topology-determined short circuit resistance and feedback ability characterize the rectifier. These properties make possible the construction of a securely operating compact drive. In order to operate the phase constituents only uni-directionally current-wise, a suitable equal phase part is to be added. The phase constituents forwards involve the current (iA) being greater than 0, and backwards less than 0.
